INTERVIEW: Degrassi’s Luke Bilyk Looks Ahead

Luke Bilyk co-hosts Faze’s Glow Girl 2014 event The next breakout Canadian star is none other than Degrassi’s Luke Bilyk who portrays Drew Torres. Prior to Degrassi, Bilyk has starred in The Latest Buzz, My Babysitter’s A Vampire, and even on an episode of Flashpoint.

Bilyk co-hosted The Faze Magazine Glow Girl 2014 event which took place at the Capitol Theater. The Xtra Mile has a quick chat with Bilyk about Degrassi , his career, and where he sees himself in the future.

Where do you want to be in five years? 

I think every actor definitely wants to move off the one show that they’ve known and grew up on. I would love to just.. My inspiration is Leonardo DiCaprio and just choosing roles that can put me in a way that I can express what I can do. Anything really gritty, I would love to do so hopefully in movies and television shows.

So you still see yourself acting? 

Oh honestly,  I see myself every day acting till the day I die. I’ll be on my hospital bed doing a shot for a movie, I’ll be the old sick guy dying.

So this a fan question about Degrassi, How did you feel when you learned Bianca dumped Drew? Is Drew going to be looking for new love? What can we expect for Drew?

Yeah I think the Drew and Bianca break up definitely messed with him a lot, it’s kinda hard. I know you guys, the fans.. who do you guys like? Drew and Bianca together right? It’s going to be difficult for him, he’s at a point in his life, especially his brother passing away, he doesn’t almost want to be with anyone but at the same time he needs someone there. It’ll be interesting to see who he chooses, you guys will never see it coming.

There’s a lot of people who want to become actors, it’s a hard industry. What’s your advice to future actors/actresses ?

I think the number one thing is don’t ever say no. A lot of people , you might hear no in an audition room, or from your agent. Like thousands of times, I didn’t get hundreds of auditions, but you know it only takes three or four to push you, but also work, just work. Even if it’s not something you think is like the best thing for you maybe or like pushing the boundaries a little bit. But the more you push, the better you get, and the better luck you’ll have.
