Canada’s new Thermëa spa village opens Oct 6 in Whitby

Canada’s new Thermëa spa village is now open in Whitby

(PRESS Release) Whitby, October 5th, 2022—Groupe Nordik, creators of North America’s largest spa and pioneers in the Canadian wellness industry, continues to deliver and enters the Ontario market with the opening of its third spa, Thermëa spa village, located in Whitby.

This addition is the first under their new Thermëa spa village banner and offers a wide selection of experiences dedicated to the well-being of the mind and body. With over a decade in the making, this best-in-class spa village represents the largest spa investment ever made in Canada.

The spa village boasts an internationally inspired thermotherapy experience that was specifically created for our Canadian environment. It features an iconic log cabin designed sauna, Loggä, the largest event sauna in Canada with a one-of-a-kind amphitheatre interior design. The spa village incorporates innovative technology created in collaboration with an international team of experts, such as Fläm, a proprietary duo-energy driven sauna, as well as Kello, a sauna with a unique auto-infusion technology. The iconic water tower brings guests an innovative cold plunge experience, merging experiential with wellness.

“The craftsmen on our team took time to carefully create such unique touches, to elevate the total experience of the village. We crafted a unique Canadian experience inspired from around the world, an immersive experience unlike any other. We wanted our guests to see, taste, feel the finest in wellness. We are eager for our guests to come enjoy the hard work and passion that went into building our spa village,” explains Martin Paquette, CEO and Co-Founder of Groupe Nordik.

In addition to the selection of saunas, the village offers two steam rooms, seven baths, and multiple rest areas. One of the highlights of this state-of-the-art facility is Källa, the largest saltwater floatation pool in North America. Guests will be able to select from a large variety of body care and massage treatments, as well as the Rhassoul clay treatment, a new addition inspired by Middle Eastern traditions created specifically for the Whitby location.

“As craftsmen, we focus on innovation by putting our customers’ experience first. With key learning from our other spas, every detail of the site has been carefully thought out and chosen to create a unique place to feel at ease. Using hidden technologies, the guest’s journey has been tailored to minimize their worries and engage their five senses, all with the goal of offering them a true moment of respite,” revealed Antoine Lagarec, Design Manager.

Guests will indulge in exquisite culinary experiences from Whitby-based Chef James Piggott at three unique restaurants within the spa village. Striving for excellence and unprecedented quality, the spa village sought to work with local suppliers to provide guests with unique local experiences.

Groupe Nordik will continue to challenge the industry’s limits and redefine the spa experience. The facility will bring profound wellness benefits to residents and visitors of the area, all year round, regardless of the weather.

A Key Player in Durham Tourism

The opening of Thermëa spa village is in line with Groupe Nordik’s policy to support and engage with the communities in which its facilities are established.

“With the creation of over 200 jobs in the Whitby market,” says Daniel Gingras, Co-Owner and Senior Vice President, “we are thrilled to be part of a growing community and are confident that this opening will have a positive impact on the local economy, the people of Whitby and its surrounding areas.”

As the latest addition to Durham’s revitalization, the facility will rank as not only the largest spa village of its kind in Ontario, but also as a major tourist destination in the Greater Toronto Area, easily accessible via highways 401, 407 and Go Transit.
