Zella Day stuns the crowd at Lee’s Palace

One of 2015’s newest break out star, Arizona Singer-Songwriter Zella Day is juggling a hectic schedule of touring, interviews and playing festivals all over the world. At only 20 years of age, Day is already breaking out the music scene with her hit single “Hypnotic” which was first heard by many on a recent episode of the hit show “Pretty Little Liars”.  

Being one of the most anticipated artists at Lollapalooza, we made sure to check out Day in Toronto on August 26. When her show was first announced at the Drake Underground, tickets were sold out in minutes. Then being upgraded to Lee’s Palace,  the venue was still pretty packed. With her newly released debut album “Kicker” Day sang pretty much every song on the album.

Day opened up the show with her single “Jerome”. All ears were open during this raw performance. Almost everyone in the crowd had a beer in their hand dancing along to Day‘s soulful voice. She then went on to singing “High” which supposed to be her next single, but the video was turned down by her label.  “1985″ also had everyone frozen and mesmerized by her raw voice. This song in particular, sounds like a mix of Lana Del Rey with a more organic sound inspired by the Arizona mountains and old western films. She also sang her hit single “Sweet Ophelia” which has a more upbeat soaring melody sound. Everyone in the audience seemed to know the lyrics and was singing along with Day.

When Day started singing her hit single “Hypnotic” the whole crowd had their phones out and started singing along. During the bridge of the song, there is so much passion in her voice, that the audience starts to feel the importance of girl power. One fan in the audience tried taking a selfie with Day while performing , and Day shouts out to the audience that “concerts aren’t about selfies.” She still posed for the selfie, and went on talking about the music.

Day ends the night with “Mustang Kids” and everyone in the crowd left the venue with a smile. We can’t wait too see what’s next for this talented singer!
