TIFF 2022 Reviews ‘Glass Onion : A Knives Out Mystery’

Glass Onion : A Knives out Mystery is hilarious, entertaining and full of mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seats for 140 minutes.

The highly anticipated TIFF success films Knives Out series is back with Glass Onion : A Knives Out Mystery. Daniel Craig is back as Benoit Blanc who ends up on Billionaire Miles Bron’s (Edward Norton) yacht with his close friends for a weekend getaway at his island for a fun murder mystery game adventure. Of course Blanc ends up somehow in the middle of an actual murder mystery, and it’s up to him to crack the case. Filled with a brand new all-star cast of suspects ( Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe) , Glass Onion : A Knives Out Mystery is funnier, brilliantly written, and somehow better than the original with spectacular performances from Daniel Craig and Janelle Monáe.

Glass Onion is witty, modern, and even uses the pandemic as a start point for the film. The script incorporates real life references and ties it to the characters we have for this film. Dave Bautista who plays like Andrew Tate type is Twitch Streamer, with Madelyn Cline as his trophy girlfriend Whiskey. Then we have Kate Hudson who delivers a hilarious performances as Birdie, a cancelled supermodel who is controversial for her racist remarks. Kathryn Hahn who plays a politician who needs to do everything to make sure her image looks good, and Leslie Odom Jr. who is a scientist who works for Miles. Finally we have Janelle Monáe who was Miles former business partner, who had a bad falling out with the team but was invited to the island to make amends.

Though Glass Onion starts out a bit slow, director Rian Johnson’s witty humour and writing keeps the pace fun and full of laughter, then we go through all the twists and turns just like the original film. The original Knives Out was probably one of my favourite films to date, and to have the second do even better, not many films have been able to do that. Craig and Monáe literally stole the show and I can’t wait for everyone to experience Glass Onion : A Knives Out mystery.
