‘The Zombie 5’ Tour with The Devil Wears Prada, The Word Alive and Secrets

On Monday, April 13th The Devil Wears Prada, The Word Alive and Secrets played a small and intimate set at the Virgin Mobile Mod Club. The show, which was originally to take place at The Danforth Music Hall, was moved to the Mod Club only a few days before the initial show.

Up first was Secrets, As they launched into their set with “The Oath” it was plain to see that the crowd was pumped and ready to start moving. Being the first band to play is always pretty tricky, more often than not the venue isn’t full but considering that they were the first band of the night, they really got the crowd (including myself) into their set early on. Throughout Secrets’ performance they kept up great energy and played a bunch of both old and new songs. Some of which included “Ready for Repair, Dance for the Dead & Infinite Escape.” With this being the fourth time I’ve seen them I can say that Richard Rogers (Clean Vocals) & Aaron Melzer (Unclean Vocals), along with the rest of the band compliment each other perfectly. By the end of their set they had a bunch of new fans I even over heard one person say “wow they were really good! I wanna go buy their CD”. Overall I would say they had a solid performance.

The Word Alive (TWA) was up next. With the venue now packed all they way to the back it was time for them to begin. Opening up with “Dragon Spell” followed by “2012” allowed the crowd to get really crazy by mid set. With circle pits, a wall of death and a bunch of crowd surfers everyone in the venue seemed to be enjoying The Word Alive’s set. TWA played a mixture of songs from every album.

Since Born of Osiris (BOO) couldn’t make it over the boarder into Canada, The Word Alive was allowed to play a bit of a longer set (3 more songs). While many fans of BOO were upset/ disappointed, those who are fans of TWA were happy they got to see their favourite band a bit longer.

This band has a TON of energy that didn’t seem to wear off at all! Song after song, every member of the band was running back and forth-on stage and seemed to be as into the set as much as the crowd. I would have to say that out of the whole show the crowd moved the most for the word alive.

Prada, Prada, Prada! The crowd began to chant louder and louder until the stagehand flicked on his flash light on and off until both the stage and house lights were out. It was time for the headliners of the night to make their way to the stage. As The Devil Wears Prada made their way to the stage, the crowd, including my self was eager in anticipation waiting for their set to begin. They began the set with “Assistant to the Regional Manager” followed “Sailor’s Prayer”, “Reptar, King of the Ozone” and “War”.

It was finally time for what everyone was waiting for, which was to hear the Zombie EP in it’s entirety. Having been a band since 2005 and being 5 years since the release of the EP, TDWP are still going strong.

As the set went on, it was easy to see from the number of crowd surfers that passed overhead that most, if not everyone was enjoying himself or herself. With that being said I think there should have been a barricade because after every crowd surfer the stagehand would have to fix the lighting and speakers on stage.

Just like the two other bands before them, TDWP played both old and new songs, including “Supernova” “Mammoth” “Dead Throne” and one of my favourite songs by them “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again.”

After the crowd cheered and chanted for “one more song” TDWP came back to play a two song encore including “Born to Lose” and “Danger: Wildman”.
