Sing, written and directed by Garth Jennings,is a charming animated dramatic comedy.Jennings is also the voice of the elderly green iguana character, Miss Crawly. The film is co-directed by Christophe Lourdelet.A bevy of talented comedic and Hollywood actors voice the lovable anthropomorphic characters which includes Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Nick Kroll, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, Tori Kelly and Taron Egerton.

Sing is akin to an animated version of the popular reality show American Idol but with lots of twists and turns.Theatre impresario Buster Moon, a Koala voiced by Matthew McConaughey, is desperate to keep his theatre afloat which is teetering on bankruptcy.Out of funds and options, he concocts a plan to hold a singing competition to raise money through ticket sales to the show. The narrative follows the antics, shenanigans, trials and tribulations of Koala Moon as he attempts to save his theatre from foreclosure and intersperses the backstory and narrative of the main singing contestants. The main contestants are a gambling white mouse named Mike (Seth MacFarlane), a punk-rock porcupine named Ash (Scarlett Johansson), a timid teenage elephant named Meena (Tori Kelly), an overworked mother pig to 25 piglets named Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), and a British gorilla named Johnny (Taron Egerton)

Unbeknown to Buster Moon, his assistant, Miss Crawly, inadvertently makes a typo regarding the prize amount of the singing competition, adding a couple of zeros. There is an overwhelming response to the competition which sets up the dramatic tension in the film. Will Buster Moon be able to keep his theatre? Will the main contestants have their singing competition?

There is so much to love about Sing. Not only are the animated characters so very cute but the film soundtrack is amazing featuring countless contemporary and classic American pop songs which will have you either singing or humming along. The visuals are spectacular. The scene where the flyers fly out of Miss Crawly’s window blanketing the town and finding their way to the main contestants is visually stunning. The film’s imagery not only captivates but stretches the imagination.Young audiences will love Sing but so too will older audiences. They will fall in love with the positive and uplifting story line, the adorable and relatable characters, the lush visuals, and the fantastic soundtrack.

Kudos is in order for the directors and their teams for creating a delightful film with a charming cast of inspirational animated characters.Singwas a joy to watch and these lovable characters will tug at your heartstrings as they did mine.Do see it for you won’t be disappointed!
