Review ‘Pitch Perfect 3’

REVIEW : PITCH PERFECT 3

It’s time to say Aca-farewell to the Barden Bellas. Most people weren’t even familiar with the term aca-pella before the popular “Pitch Perfect” franchise first released in 2012. The first two films focused on the Bellas in college and now we focus on the tough reality of the real world. Beca (Anna Kendrick) is struggling as a music producer, while living with Fat Amy(Rebel Wilson) who is trying to make it as a street performer. Luckily, the Bellas were able to reunite and join a United Service Organizations (USO)  tour to entertain American Troops around Europe and compete with instrumental bands to open for DJ Khaled. Ruby Rose makes an appearance as one of the competitors, while John Lithgow joins the cast as Fat Amy’s Dad. Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Elizabeth Banks, Hailee Steinfeld and the rest of the girls returns for the final farewell.

After three films, Pitch Perfect 3 sort of loses its plot, but the movie itself knows it’s not meant for the storylines. The film starts out with an action-like hollywood movie scene but manages to keep the true spirit of a-capella with great covers of chart-topping songs such as Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and Sia’s “Cheap Thrills”.   By now you really feel warmed up to the main cast including “Jessica and Ashley” (The two background characters that nobody knows, but the script plays up to characters with self-aware jokes). Pitch Perfect also maintains its hilarious one-liners, and Rebel Wilson’s ridiculously enjoyable performances and vulgar innuendos.

The Bellas are truly the strength of the movie, and the film ends with a winning note. Even though there wasn’t much of a plot, you’ll still get good laughs and enjoy the company of the Barden Bellas and watching them grow as a family. If you enjoyed the first two installments, then you’ll definitely find Pitch Perfect 3 a satisfying end to a very fun trilogy.
