Can you say “Aca-adorable”. The Pitch Perfect co-stars Skylar Astin and Anna Camp, who are a real-life couple made their first appearance in Toronto as judges for the Courtyard Hotel’s A cappella competition at NXNE. The couple who are set to have their wedding this summer, sat down with us to discuss how A cappella is taking over the music industry, and Pitch Perfect 3.

Welcome to NXNE. You’re here to judge an A cappella competition, which is incredible, because this is the first time we’ve ever had something like this.  Where do you see the future of A cappella music going?

Anna: Man, it’s going to the moon and back. I mean who knew A capella was such a big thing. I didn’t know anything about it until I read the script for Pitch Perfect and then as we got into shooting the movies going and seeing how everyone responded to it, and all these people were like “I was in an A cappella group in college” It’s something that like people love doing and I’m happy that we’re going to be judging an A cappella competition.

Skylar: When I was younger, I really liked this band called Rockapella they did the theme to Where in the world is Carmen SanDiego. So I really enjoyed them and there was a local guy from my town in it. But other than that, just some bands at NYU that played some events that when I was a student. And now it’s Pentatonix, and Pitch Perfect it like win’s Grammys. It’s crazy.

Speaking of Pitch Perfect, it’s picked up the third installation. Where would you like to see your characters develop?

Skylar: For me, I would like to see Jesse as an adult outside of college, maybe working on his film composition. And as far as vocally, I would love for him to sing something like Amy Whinehouse’s Valerie, or just a female song that he can dig into and reinvent.

Anna: I would love to see Aubrey never yell at anyone ever again because she’s like the most zen she’s ever been and maybe she smokes like a lot of weed, very chill and very relaxed.

Congratulations on the engagement! What’s the best thing you love about each other?

Skylar: Everything. I fall in love with her more and more every day. We like agree on everything and everything is just so seamless with her.

We’re all about going The Xtra Mile. How do you guys go The Xtra Mile?

Anna: You have to be extremely dedicated  and have to not sweat the small stuff. Because there’s a lot of rejection in this industry, which can really beat you down. But if you can rise above and know what you’re passion is and you’re doing this for the right reasons, not for fame. Then everything will turn out right.

Skylar: And to not denying opportunities that come your way and becoming to precious about them when you’re first starting out. You never know where that will lead you and you need those experiences.  They’re very humbling and they will take you very far.
