MusiCounts Benefit Concert at The Pheonix

On January 28, The Phoenix Concert Theatre hosted the fundraising concert MusiCounts featuring God Made Me Funky, Bucket List, Joey Landreth of The Bros. Landreth, Simone Denny, Lee Aaron and The Elwins. The night started off a bit slow, but it was Thursday and pretty cold outside. As the night went on more people started to trickle in and place bids on all of the amazing prizes. Prizes included a couple of electric guitars – one signed by Blue Rodeo, Maple Leaf tickets and yoga and wellness packages.

My friend Aaron and I mingled around before I caught up with Frankie from The Elwins to chat with him about the evening:

What is your connection to MusiCounts?
Frankie: They got in touch with us recently and approached us about doing a show, so we read up about them and just heard about the great things that they did. We were just super stoked on doing it because we all got into music while we were into school, so the fact that they put an effort into bringing music into school was really cool to us. I feel like that’s something super important.

You’re quite catchy, what feeling do you want to covet through your music?
When we’re writing music we try to keep in mind what we want our live show to be like, so this last record was kind of pretty energetic. So that’s what the live show is like now. We are also open to trying different things in the future. Mostly high energy, but you never know what’s going to happen.

Has MusiCounts impacted your career?
Today was my first time meeting everyone from MusiCounts. Just in the short time that I’ve been here everyone seems to be amazing and super passionate.

How was the crowd tonight?
We had some family here tonight and some friends. Then also just the fact that people came out to support the cause was really cool. I met a bunch of new people which is awesome. So yeah it was really fun.
