INERTIA ENTERTAINMENT presents Bring Me The Horizon, Issues & PVRIS
INERTIA ENTERTAINMENT presents some of Canada’s favourite Pop-Punk American bands. The much loved PVRIS, Issues and Bring Me The Horizon. Torontonians gathered at a completely sold out Sound Academy to share their passion and excitement with these 3 bands for a night.
As soon as the light went down and the members of PVRIS took the stage, the crowd began to roar. Opening up with “Fire”, Followed by “St. Patrick” allowed those who might have not been familiar with PVRIS to see what they are all about. Front woman Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, along with the rest of the band had fantastic energy throughout the whole set and really knew how to interact with the crowd. Even though they were the first band of the night the sound academy was packed with people singing along to every song. PVRIS’s Energetic songs were a perfect way to start off the night.
Front man, Tyler Carter recently told Alternative Press about his newfound sobriety choice and how he is “tackling anxiety with love and music and feeling peaceful.” I must say that this new mantra really shined through in his performance at the Sound Academy in Toronto. In past times I have seen his band Issues it has always been a fun time, but this one was different. Tyler Carter seemed to have a tranquil grasp on not only himself, but also on the sold out crowd in front of him. With Tyler’s clean vocals and Michael Bohns high energy, singing all the hit songs, such as ‘Mad at myself’ off their self titled album, the crowd without a doubt was sharing a great experience with each other, and filled with energy and smiles all around. Though the entire night was filled with happiness, Canadians were also able to be part of this important set for Issues; as Tyler Carter shared a very emotional story and performance that night by telling us that on this day (October 8) was the anniversary that his best friend Rachel Reece was killed by a drunk driver. As Issues performed the song ‘Disappear’ with a heavy heart, the sold out crowd in Toronto was sure to make them feel supported by singing every word back to them.
Bring Me The Horizon…. WOW! is an accurate way to sum up the band and performance. The build up was tense and great at the same time, as the crowd eagerly waited for BMTH to hit the stage. The well recognized umbrella (and raindrops) beamed through a very black stage, as the perfect entrance for the band. All eyes on front stage as they finally came out and delivered a hell of a performance of so many great songs off their newest album ‘That’s the Spirit’. If anyone knows how to command a room, Oli Skyes is definitely one of those people. With every movement and every word he sings, you can’t help but fall into his trance. Each song was delivered with so much passion, plus Oli and the band were very interactive with crowd, smiling, reaching out and making eye contact with as much people as they could. BMTH makes you feel part of something bigger and everyone in the crowd and even balcony were all jumping up and down and singing every word. At one point in the night I was watching up high from the balcony and a very overwhelming feeling came over me as Oli asked the crowd to get on each others shoulders so that he could look into as much people’s eyes as he could. A band that you can tell truly loves their fans and the fans so equally love them back. I watched as so many music lovers of all age, race and gender helped one another onto each others shoulders and moved in complete synchronization. The last song of the night was their hit single ‘drown’.
