FanExpo 2017 takes over Toronto

Fan Expo has hit Toronto for its 23rd year! Almost every anime, horror and sci-fi lovers were spotted at the 2017 Fan Expo which took place at the Metro Convention Centre on August 31- Sept 3.

With close to 130,000 people this year, the expo had some amazing guests this year such as Matt Smith(Doctor Who), Bob Morley ( The 100), Cast of Stranger Things, Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Stephen Amell (Arrow), Rocky Horror Picture Show cast, and a lot more!  Each celebrity guests had their own table for signings and slotted times for photo ops which ranged from $50-$125.

Cosplayers were a hit commodity as always but this year we seen a lot more Justice League tributes (Wonder woman especially). Exhibitors were in full force with their exclusive items and collections. Some of the highlights with this years event were the Doctor Who Escape room, and of course the Tim Curry experience, joined by his cast mates Nell Campbell, Meat Loaf, Barry Bostwick, and Patricia Quinn.

This year we were treated to an exclusive Q&A panel with none other than Rocky Horror Picture Show’s Tim Curry. With hundreds of fans in attendance, even after suffering from a major stroke in 2012, Tim did not disappoint and kept the crowd smiling and laughing. He tells us his favourite animated film was The Wild Thornberrys directed by Charlie Antler. He mentioned he forgot who he played(Nigel Thornberry) but still managed to make a joke out of it. It was one of the first cartoons he ever did, and that he loves doing animation. He mentions he’s done almost everything but he jokes that “I’ve never been a contortionist and one day I hope to be”. Tim ends the Q&A by mentioning how excited he is for the IT reboot.

Another great panel we attended was The 100’s fan favourite Bob Morley, best known for Bellamy Blake on the show. With his charming Australian accent, Morley swoons the audience  by telling fans he was a huge fan of X-Men when he was younger. He also mentions the hardest part about playing Bellamy is that he tends to feel loss/guilt driven more than the other characters. He enjoys playing the darker depths of a character, and being able to explore you as yourself as a person and as a character. He tells us the next season, with the major time jump, Bellamy will have shifted a lot from who he used to be. Season 5 of The 100 is set to air in 2018!

Thanks to Touchwood PR for a great year! and if you missed it next year, catch Fan Expo next year!
