EP Review : Devin Moody – Chivarly’s Not Dead

Chivalry's Not Dead
Chivalry’s Not Dead

On May 25 solo artist Devin Moody released his first EP “Chivarlys Not Dead.” By mashing up 50’s Doo-Wop with today’s pop/rock melodies he has created a cool and different new sound that he likes to call New-Wop. With the single “Naomi” being out for quite a while, fans have been patiently waiting for the release this much anticipated EP.

The first time I listened to the song it reminded me of a 50’s inspired pop punk/ All Time Low song. (which is a good thing). Its catchy, pop, doo-wop beat made it easy to get into right away. The second time around I decided to pay close attention to the lyrics, which are actually quite smart. In short, the song is about how in todays society chivalry is really pretty much dead. By the third listen I was bobbing my head and had most of the lyrics memorized. I can honestly say this is one catchy song that opened the EP excellently.

While different from the rest of the EP, “The Great White Buffalo” is the perfect transition song. It is short, raw and sounds as if it was being played on a retro radio. In my opinion this song seemed to tie the whole EP together.

Back in town” is the third and final song of the EP. The song opens up with a traditional Doo-Wop beat, which then leads to a more modern popish melody. Upon listening to Devin’s deeper vocals throughout the song (especially at the 1:23 mark) it reminded me of Brendon Urie’s deeper vocals. Even though this song is a bit slower than the other two it is just as catchy as the others.

Listening it was as if this EP brought me on a journey, one with a beginning, middle and end. The lyrics to all three songs are very relatable, Overall I have to say every song on this EP is extremely addictive and with that being said I look forward to hearing more from Devin in the future.
