Centr app review: Is Chris Hemsworth’s app worth buying?

Centr app is the newest fitness app from Chris Hemsworth which was first released last year. This program is designed to help you get into shape and live a healthier and happier life through healthy meals, meditations, different styles of workouts, and all sorts of different blog posts.  Due to the COVID-19 situation, Hemsworth has offered a free 6 week trial for anyone who needs a little motivation during this quarantine. Let’s admit, I miss the gym. Working out from home just isn’t the same, but what other choice do I have?

I tried out a few apps to keep myself motivated, and I’m on my third week of the Centr app, and here’s what I think. The app isn’t so bad, it’s actually one of the few that I find very easy to navigate and scroll through. The free trial is a bonus, and I’m enjoying it so far. One of the main questions I get is, Is Chris Hemsworth actually in it?  Yes, but not in the way that you think. He doesn’t lead any of the workouts except for guided workouts with Luke Zocchi. There’s only about 4-5 of them and Luke is the one who actually guides you and then there’s videos of Chris actually doing them. I’m sorry but it’s hard to follow when you’re starring at Chris showing off those arms.

Anyways, like any other fitness apps, here are a few pros and cons to it.

The Workouts

The workouts themselves are pretty straight forward. You can adjust what your fitness goal is, and I’ve set mine to “Get Fit & Toned” which then creates an automatic 6-week program for you to get into shape. You also have the option to choose your own self-guided or guided videos with voice-over and music. Most of them require minimal equipment and each workout lays out exactly what you need. I’ve only done the guided videos because it’s nice to have someone motivate you through the exercises. For the 6 week program, each day consists of different workouts. One day you’ll have a cardio-based, the other you’ll have a HiiT or strength. The workouts themselves have an easy, medium and advanced instructor guiding you through each one, and you’re able to play it on full screen or zoomed. There is even a warm up and cool down each session (Though I noticed it’s the exact same each time). Another thing I’ve noticed so far, it’s a lot of the same movements, not in the same order, but a lot of reps that you become very familiar with.

The app is supposed to be compatible with apple watch, though it seems very inaccurate because sometimes it says I burned over 200 calories in a 20minute workout, which is totally possible, but doesn’t seem right with the movements I’ve been doing.

The Format

Centr app

I will give major props for this one. The way the app is designed is super easy and convenient to navigate. You have your explore, planner, programs and shopping list all in one bar, and each section is broken down with the specific trainer who helped create that recipe/workout.

The only downside is there isn’t a structured workout other than the 6-week program. So you’re on your own if you want to make a formal 7-day training schedule.

Meal plans & Recipies

Centr app

The Centr app did an amazing job breaking down a meal plan for each and every day. In your settings, you can choose your restrictions, and then adjust accordingly. Once you select which meals you’d like for the day, it breaks it down with a recipe list (You can even make a full list on what you need for the day from the grocery store. You can even cross off the food items you already have). The planner breaks down the workout, recipe, blog post/podcast that you can complete each and every day. You can swap out anything you want as well. The downside is some of the recipes are very time consuming just to make one serving.

Pricing

$119 USD for 12 months,
$59.99 USD for 3 months
$29.99 USD for 1 month

I wouldn’t pay for it long term, maybe an extra month. It’s not any different than many of the other fitness apps out there, though the 6-week trial is a definite bonus.

Overall, I don’t vouch for it 100%, but I will say do the 6-week trial and see how you feel. Everyone has a different experience, and I personally think if you’re looking for something nice and simple, this is one of the best apps that do all that. You also get to train with the trainers who helped shaped Chris Hemsworth into Thor.
