Why you can’t miss Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria

One of Cirque du Soleil’s most iconic productions, beloved by fans all over the world, Alegria returns to the Big Top after its farewell tour in 2013. Over the course of 19 years, the show was presented in 255 cities and seen by more than 14million spectators worldwide.

Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria is the reincarnation of the classic and kept its signature songs, acrobatics and memorable characters but has been reinterpreted for the age to inspire fans and share its timeless story of resilience and hope.

Every moment from the start to finish was an absolute joy to watch, but here are some of our favourite performances and why you can’t miss this amazing show.

The synchronized Trapeze Duo by Roxane Gilliand (Switzerland) and Nicolai Kuntz (Germany). What really captured this beautiful performance was the vocals by Irene Ruiz Martin(Spain). It felt like a scene out of a movie with a beautiful contemporary act between the two trapeze artists. We definitely shed some tears watching this flawless performance.

Crossed Wheel performance by Jonathan Morin (Canada) and Aerialist Daria Kalinina (Russia). Who knew there could be so many tricks done on a crossed wheel?

The Fire Knife Dance felt like we were in Thailand. Lisiate Tovo (USA) dominated this performance and showed the audience that he is literally on fire. Some people are afraid by the sight of fire, meanwhile, Tovo is grabbing flames with his tongue and hands.

Intermission Snow clean up. These clowns sure know how to make the audience feel engaged. With confetti flying everywhere. it felt like a winter wonderland performance.

The finale. We don’t want to give too much away, but we’ll say that this performance was everything!

Alegría kept us present in the moment throughout the whole show, about 95% of the audience didn’t even take out their phones. It ended all too soon but every single moment was an absolute pleasure to watch!

Cirque du Soleil Alegria will premiere on September 12 and runs to November 24, under the Big Top at Ontario Place.
