TIFF 2026 Review: All That She Wants

Annie Murphy Stars in a Relatable Rom-Com About Figuring Out Life in Your 30s

There’s something about watching a film set in Toronto that just makes it a little more special, especially when you recognize the city and the places where the story unfolds. And honestly, that was probably one of my favourite things about All That She Wants.

Premiering at TIFF 2026, All That She Wants stars Annie Murphy, who many of us know and love from Schitt’s Creek. I’ve always enjoyed watching her on screen, so I was curious to see her take on a romantic comedy.

Directed by Scarlett Bermingham and Andrew Rhymer, the film follows Emma (Murphy), a dancer in her late 30s who’s struggling to figure out what she wants out of life. Between her career, relationships, and the pressure of getting older, she finds herself questioning where things are going. Things take an unexpected turn when she meets Luke (Cooper Raiff), a much younger man who complicates her already uncertain future.

What I really appreciated about this film was how relatable Emma’s situation felt. I think so many people in their 30s can understand what it’s like to feel a little lost. There’s this expectation that by a certain age, you’re supposed to have your career figured out, know what you want in a relationship, and have some kind of plan for your future. But the reality is that life doesn’t always work that way. And I liked that the film explored those feelings through Emma’s character. Even if you don’t necessarily relate to her desire to have a baby, I think there’s something universal about questioning where you are in life and wondering whether you’re falling behind. Annie Murphy was really enjoyable to watch, and I thought she brought a lot of humour and charm to the role. The film also had some genuinely funny moments, along with a few sweet and lighthearted romantic scenes.

However, I will say that I wasn’t completely sold on the relationship between Emma and Luke. Maybe it was the age difference or just the way their relationship developed, but I didn’t find their connection entirely believable. And while I enjoyed the film, I also found it pretty predictable. It follows a lot of the familiar romantic comedy formula, and there wasn’t necessarily anything about the storyline that really surprised me or made it stand out from other films in the genre. That being said, the pacing was good, and I was entertained throughout.

But I have to come back to Toronto because I genuinely loved how much of the city was featured in this film. It felt so Toronto, and seeing the city play such a big part in the story made the experience even more enjoyable for me.

Overall, All That She Wants is a fun, lighthearted rom-com with a relatable message about navigating life in your 30s. It might not bring anything particularly new to the genre, but it’s still an enjoyable watch, especially if you’re looking for something funny and easy to get into.

And if you’re from Toronto, I think you’ll have an extra appreciation for seeing the city on screen.
