TIFF 2025 Red Carpet Roundup: The Tuner, The Fence & Project Y

TIFF 2025 keeps the red carpets rolling, and this week brought some of the most interesting celebrity moments so far. From Dustin Hoffman talking about hidden talents to Lily James reflecting on her “Swiped” transformation, each night had its own energy – a mix of glamour, laughter, and those perfectly unscripted TIFF moments. Here’s a look back at the highlights from Monday through Wednesday.

Monday Highlights and Red Carpets:

Monday kicked off with Tuner, where stars revealed what “special ability” they’d want most.

  • Meghann Fahy, in support of boyfriend Leo Woodall, laughed as she said she’d choose invisibility  “so I can sneak into people’s houses.”
  • Lior Raz said he’d be a drummer.
  • Director Daniel Roher added a thoughtful touch: “I’d love to speak different languages. I have severe dyslexia.”
  • And Dustin Hoffman kept it classic: “I’d be a great pianist.”

Eleanor the Great, The Smashing Machine & Frankenstein

Over at Eleanor the Great, Scarlett Johansson and Chiwetel Ejiofor were spotted chatting between interviews, while The Smashing Machine brought major star power with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt.

The night wrapped with a gothic flair as Frankenstein premiered, featuring Mia Goth, Guillermo del Toro, and Jacob Elordi walking the carpet.

At the Swiped premiere, Lily James opened up about preparing for her role as Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd.

“I did a lot of research – interviews, articles, videos, just to capture the essence of these women,” she said.

When asked her biggest dating dealbreaker, she smiled and joked,

“Oh God, that’s too difficult. We’d be here all night.”

 

Wednesday Highlights and Red Carpets:

Earlier in the day, Paul Dano appeared at the Access Canada Summit powered by The Hollywood Reporter. During his Q&A, he got candid about watching himself on screen:

“No, I don’t like watching myself… I try to be curious about the film rather than it just being about me. The first time you see it, it’s hard  but the second time, it gets easier.”

Later that evening, The Fence red carpet gathered Matt Dillon, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Tom Blyth for Claire Denis’ latest film.

Matt Dillon shared how the project came together:

“It was Claire. She’s a director with such a distinctive voice  as an actor, you can’t ask for more.”

When asked to describe the film in one word, Mia smiled and said, “A journey.”

Tom Blyth followed with, “Bold.”

The chemistry between the cast was easy to see as it was full of laughs and admiration.

At the Project Y carpet, stars answered one creative question: What’s gold to you?

  • Jeon Jong Seo: “My gold is acting.”
  • Han So Hee: “If I really found gold, the police would find me,” she joked.
  • Director Lee Hwan described the film as one that helps audiences “remember every character.”
