#REVIEW The Witch

The Witch is a gripping thriller that portrays the story of a young Christian family in the 1930s. As they migrate their home base and family of five children to New England, it becomes apparent that they border a forest filled with evil secrets.

Unusual and mysterious behavior arises when their farm animals begin to behave erratically, and their youngest son Caleb, disappears into the forest, and returns days later possessed by an evil spirit.

Eldest daughter, Thomasin is accused of black magic with suspicion of witchcraft which she adamantly denies since she is brought up Christian.

Thomasin does not have control over her own fate which led to constant denial, self-hate, and disappointment throughout the film. The film is a story of self-realization and Thomasin’s feels to later understand that she does not have control over her own fate.

The film portrays true adaptations of folklore witch rituals and poems that are said to have occurred during the witch era in the 1600s.
