#Review The Secret Life of Pets

Have you ever thought about what your pets do at home while you are at work? The Secret Life of Pets by Illumination films and Universal pictures perfectly portrays the behavior of our beloved pets, and their secret lives of course.  Voiced by renowned actors including Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Dana Carvey, and Louis C.K. – audiences are transported into an action-packed animated film that is laugh out loud funny, and absolutely adorable.

The characters of the film are definitely what make the movie very memorable. Set in Manhattan, New York, Max– a domesticated terrier embarks on an adventure with the neighborhood pets, and unlikely best friend Duke. Illumination film does a tremendous job on the detail of the characters and their personalities. From the courageous neighborhood leader, Max– to the old and wise retired hound Pops. Also, who would expect a posh standard- poodle domesticated by humans to throw the most outrageous house parties, complete with heavy metal being the soundtrack, of choice – all while humans are gone to work!

The secret life of pets is a movie with the main theme being friendship conquers all, and to not underestimate your friends, where they come from. The film is definitely geared towards children audience- due to its very whimsical moments, like when Max and Duke find themselves caught in a hot dog plant, I mean, dog heaven!

In comparison to Zootopia which had many adult and “real life” references and humor, there was no real lesson learned or specific theme in my opinion.

Given my opinion of this being a more child- oriented film, I would rate it a 5/10 if you are watching this movie as an adult. You will find yourself being very excited and attracted to the animal characters and their very unique and adorable personalities. Given that I am a very big fan of animation films, I found this one particularly to not give me a particular feeling or attachment to it, besides being a pet lover myself and enjoying the characters themselves.
