Review ‘The Lost City’
The star-studded film The Lost City delivers big laughs and an enjoyable adventure. The Lost City is a romantic action-adventure comedy film that lifts elements of the 1984 film Romancing the Stone, but with a more modern adventure flavour starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt, and Daniel Radcliffe.
Bullock plays novelist Loretta Sage, who is introduced early on as a best-selling- author who is grieving the loss of her beloved archeologist husband. Loretta seems to have lost purpose in her life and dreads doing anything, while her publicist (Da’Vine Joy Randolph”) is strongly encouraging her to get out and do her book tour. Clearly, Loretta does not want to do any appearances, especially with her novel feature cover model Alan who plays Dash in the stories (Channing Tatum). As soon as we see their first appearance in public, we’re able to see the dynamic between the two, Loretta is boring the audience, while Alan is charming everyone with his personality and good looks.
Loretta decides she doesn’t want to write the books anymore and then ends up getting kidnapped by billionaire Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe) who forces Loretta to help him decode the hidden message to find the treasure in The Lost City. Meanwhile, Alan decides to go after to prove he’s more than just a pretty model but reinforces backup. He calls up a Trainer (Brad Pitt) he’s met once to help save Loretta.
Pitt steals the show with his short appearance as the chiseled better looking version of Dash. I would have loved it if he was in the film a bit longer. He is probably the funniest part of the movie. The movie still has many comedic moments and excellent chemistry between Tatum and Bullock, however sometimes you can feel that they were trying a bit too hard to be funny. There were a lot of jokes that kinda repeated themselves throughout the film but still managed to get some smiles and giggles. The scenes were a lot of fun and very enjoyable to watch. It might not be a 10/10 but I think regardless it is a film that is bound to put a smile on your face and take you into a world of adventure.
Final thoughts: 7.5/10
