#REVIEW ‘Missing Link’

Animated stop motion studio Laika is back this weekend with their newest film Missing Link, hoping to capitalize on the success they’ve had so far since their debut back in 2009 with the chilling Coraline. The studios most recent film was the 2016 critical darling “Kubo and the Two Strings”,

Missing Link is definitely lighter fare compared to Laika’s previous films, which have all featured darker themes. This time the studio focuses on a sweet story of friendship and adventure in the Victoria era.

The film opens with famed British explorer Sir Lionel Frost (voiced by Hugh Jackman) trying to find the elusive Loch Ness Monster. After that ends up a bust, he receives a mysterious letter beckoning him to the Pacific Northwest to find the mythological “sasquatch.”

Once he arrives he comes face to face with the creature and its safe to say he’s nothing like Frost ever imagined.  This sasquatch (Zach Galifianakis) is a lovable, quirky creature that needs Frost to take him to the Himalayas to find the yetis who he believes to be his “cousins.”

From there, the two embark on an incredible quest across the world and are joined along the way by Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana), a feisty former love of Sir Lionel who possesses the map to their destination.

The animation in Missing Link is simply incredible, with exotic locations looking incredibly life-like, as well as our team of delightful heroes.  The Laika team has spent copious amounts of time to make all shots look meticulously crafted which will dazzle viewers of all ages.
