#REVIEW Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Just before my time, about 25 years ago this summer, dinosaurs were the hot discussion as Steven Spielberg first released Jurassic Park across the big screen. The special effects and the realism of these Dinosaurs changed the way VFX is supposed to look and feel on the big screen.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the fifth movie in the franchise. Picking up three years later after Jurassic World, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) reunite to help save the dinosaur race from becoming extinct. The film starts with the question of humanity if the dinosaurs should die or if they are worth saving, which can possibly threaten our own existence. The moral issue of using DNA to clone these dinosaurs to be weaponized and to follow orders and kill on command was also brought up briefly. These were all very strong points, that weren’t explored deeply with any narrative effort but rather the film felt more like a roller coaster ride.

There are still a couple of moments of laughter and excitement. The VFX just always fascinate me on how realistic everything looks, and Pratt’s quirky one-liners are still just as memorable as the first film.  It filters the Dinosaur filled world through a dark lens, and there’s one scene in particular which had me in tears (NO SPOILER -hint Veggie-saurus)

Overall, Fallen Kingdom provides the adventure and fun that is expected of the franchise. The visuals felt better than the original, and fans should catch this one in IMAX.
