Amanda Brooke Perrin

Amanda Brooke Perrin started doing stand-up in 2007 after being trained in sketch and improv. She has been featured in many comedy festivals like JFL, All Jane No Dick and Women in Comedy just to name a few. Perrin has also been the recipient of numerous awards including best stand up newcomer 2010 at the Canadian Comedy Awards and 2014 Best Breakout Artist.

We got to sit down and chat with the comedian via phone about getting ready for her upcoming joke-off in Your Hood’s a Joke. The show features comedians from two different neighbourhoods who battle each other opener-to-opener and headliner-to-headliner to see which one is funnier. This month feature’s The Calgary Climate Changers vs Toronto Transit Titans at Comedy Bar, on April 18th!

How are you preparing for the battle this weekend?
I’m researching soooo much……just kidding, not at all. I’m practicing in the mirror, Rocky style!

You’ve performed for quite a bit of festivals, any else that you would like to add to the roster?
I would do JFL again, San Francisco Comedy Festival, Seattle Comedy Competition and the Halifax and Winnipeg Comedy Festivals.

You post a lot of funny clips on Youtube, most notably about Peter Dinklage. What would you do if you ever met him?
I would not act like a mature adult. I would cry so much and scream. He’s on my phone background.

If you got to have your own tv sitcom what would the premise be?
It would be with Peter Dinklage and we would be “the odd couple” or I could be the wacky neighbour, that’s more my comedic style.

Who are your favorite comedians?
Maria Bamford and John Mulaney

What’s your motto in life?
Have fun, chill out and don’t eat too many beans.

What kind of perspective on life would a person have to have to be a successful comedian?
You can’t take life too seriously and be educated about what your telling jokes about. You need to be able to joke about whatever.

If you got to pillow fight any celebrity, who would you like to take on?
Tom Hanks, because he would do a lot of yelling.
