CMW 2019: TOP 5: TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL WEEK

Thinking of attending the Canadian Music Week (CMW) this year for the first time? Here are our top 5 tips for a successful week of music and fun.

1. plan, Plan, PLAN!

Unfortunately, like most music festivals, it is impossible to see every artist/band on the lineup. With so many shows and a bunch of overlap, you need to plan ahead on who you want to see at CMW. Otherwise, you might miss seeing a band you really wanted to see because you never looked at the lineup. It is also important to note that shows occur in various locations throughout the city, so pay attention to where a session is located and what the set times for each artist are. Then determine if you need to skip something else (or hustle your pants off) to attend something else.

2. Have a Back-Up Plan

I know, I know, I just told you to plan and I sincerely mean it but be willing to throw that plan out the window. The plan is really important for trying to tackle this Festival/Conference, but once you are in the middle of it things can change very quickly. Most venues are pretty small and fill up pretty fast so to avoid ruining the whole night.

3. Find New Talent

Festivals are a GREAT time to not only see your favourite artists but also to discover NEW music! That’s why we love CMW so much. Sometimes there are SO many options, it’s overwhelming. Walk around the city and you’ll most likely uncover some new music gems and add a new artist to your “must-see” list. In the past, I have found amazing artists I still listen to today by just walking around and popping in and out of different venues.

4. Enjoy the city

whether you are visiting Toronto for the first time, the 100th time or you live in the downtown core; Canadian Music Week (CMW)  is the best time to explore the city. With music around every corner why not pop into a venue, you’ve never been too before it might just become your new go-to spot. It is also a good time to explore the other establishments around the area, try out a cool restaurant, talk to the locals, shop etc… with a whole week there is a whole lot you can discover in Toronto.

5. Have an Amazing Time and be Safe

Most importantly enjoy yourself. Yes, this might sound cliche but it’s true, running around the city all week can be quite exhausting, but making sure you are taking care of yourself and the people around you will make this week a lot more enjoyable. As much fun as it might be to drink until 4 am know your limits, it isn’t fun to be constantly hungover all week.
