2018 Emmy Nominees predictions

Just last week, the voting for the 70th annual Emmy Awards nominations closed on June 25. The actual live ceremony won’t take place until September 17, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited for it!

The nominations were announced last year mid July, so we predict they will be released soon. With TIFF also being around the corner, we can’t wait to talk about which films we think are going to be nominated! Here are a few predictions we put together!

Best Drama:
Handmaids Tale
This is Us
Game of Thrones
Stranger Things
The Americans
Westworld
other

This category is always a tough race, my vote is going on Handmaids Tale for winning category.

Comedy Series:
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Will and Grace
Young Sheldon
Black-ish
Glow
Atlanta
Silicon Valley
Other

The unanimous from critics seem to be The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, even top critics such as Peter Travers from Rolling Stones weighs in on this one

Comedy for Outstanding Actress:
Kate McKinnon
Alex Borstein
Megan Mullally
Laurie Metcalf
Rita Moreno
Leslie Jones
Catherine O’Hara

Kate McKinnon might take this one home, but critics such as Kaela Napier from Sports Betting Dime. weighs in that O’Hara may not be in the books for a win, but a nomination snub will be a huge mistake” Interesting!

Comedy for Outstanding Actor:
Donald Glover
Eric McCormack
Anthony Anderson
Bill Hader
Larry David
William H. Macy

Donald Glover and Atlanta, which was actually rated 97 % on Rotten tomatoes is no doubt the favourite here.

Lead Actor Drama series:
Sterling K. Brown
Matthew Rhys
Liev Schreiber
Milo Ventimiglia
Jeffrey Wright
Other

If you’ve seen This Is Us, I’m sure most people would agree the safe bet is Sterling K.Brown. Though, Vanity Fair quotes ‘He may see the stiffest competition from his own on-screen dad, Milo Ventimiglia, who was at the center of the show’s most powerful second-season story line.’ I think this one will be an interesting bet.

Lead Actress Drama Series:
Claire Foy
Mandy Moore
Evan Rachel Wood
Keri Russell
Elisabeth Moss
Sandra Oh
Other

This one is a really tough one. Russell seems to be the most talked about, but there’s no doubt Foy and Oh come in for some stiff competition. I think I might put my bet on Foy on this one as she returned stronger than ever on season 2 of The Crown.

Well there you have it folks, keep an eye out for nominations this week and the 70th Primetime Emmys are set for September 17.
