TIFF 2022 Reviews ‘Project Wolf Hunting’
Project Wolf Hunting will take you a thrilling ride and may even send you out of the theatre
One of the TIFF’s most thrilling films would have to be Director Hong-sun Kim’s gory midnight madness film, Project Wolf Hunting. Let me say I was not prepared for this, the blood, screaming, gore, it was definitely a thrilling experience. The film also stars Cafe Minamdang’s Seo In-guk who plays criminal Jong Du, and Playful Kiss’ Jung So-Min who plays a cop.
Project Wolf Hunting brings a group of prisoners in secret from the Phillipines to South Korea on a cargo ship, which is already a bad sign. The cops are assigned on board to keep a close eye on the prisoners but they have no idea a secret project “Alpha” (Choi Guyhwa) is on board. An experiment that was meant to give a human the power of a Wolf, hence the project title. The project goes down hill once the prisoners break free, and we are filled with blood, and I’m not talking about your typical North America slasher like Halloween, or Friday the 13th.. I’m talking about spraying blood, arms being chopped off, and just so much blood everywhere. If you are not into squeamish films, this is not the film for you. I almost had to walk out of the theatre five times, and had my eyes covered for the most part.
What kept me in the theatre was the whole concept behind the film . South Korean films have such an amazing way of story telling, and relating real world problems into a film, with literally zero filter. This film is definitely worth the watch, and for anyone who wants a really good thriller/slasher, you’ll absolutely love this film and be taken for a thrill ride.
