TEM (The Extra Mile) : How does it feel to be Canada’s first Afro-Indigenous Drag Superstar?

The Virgo Queen:  I mean, it’s definitely an honor. I’m super blessed and like privileged to be able to carry that crown and to, you know, of inspire and try my best to create opportunities for everyone, but mainly the afro-indigenous community right?

TEM:  How do you feel that your journey will inspire others, especially those in, let’s say, marginalized communities?

The Virgo Queen:  I mean, I think like just seeing people that look like us on TV definitely gives us some sort of encouragement, inspiration to know that like you can achieve your goals. And like, I hope that, I mean, I know that I’ve received messages like just from being on the show, from people telling me how inspired they are and how they like look up to me and they, you know, want to do this as well, but they can think that it was possible until they saw someone like me on the screen, which is like even for me, it’s I’m not like a dark, dark skinned or I don’t look like that per se super marginalized group, but it’s very like humbling to hear those types of responses.

TEM: Did you have a chance to celebrate your win yet or is it still kind of fresh?

The Virgo Queen:  I mean, not exactly. I’m excited to celebrate this weekend in Whistler, but did you do a couple shots with my grandma last night?

TEM: Looking at your journey just on a drag race, what has been your favorite runway of the season of yours and why?

The Virgo Queen:  Ooh, that’s a good question. think I would say the time and place runway, which was the African inspire. It mixed with the time was the romantic era 18th century and then the place was South Africa and I think that just had a really strong message and it was also really beautiful so I’m sure it’s that one.

TEM:  Is there any moment you would relive from the season? What would it be and why?

The Virgo Queen: If I could re-live any moment, it would probably be that first lip-sync from the very first episode because it was so much fun to be up there preforming with Makayla in my little ostrich feathers.

TEM: Is there anything you would change through your journey?

The Virgo Queen:  Probably my snatch game. Maybe would have came in with a different character and be a bit more prepared.

TEM: What  would you say surprised you the most about yourself throughout this journey?

The Virgo Queen: Um, probably how comfortable I was, because I’m a Virgo, I tend to be quite controlling, and I think that was my biggest worry going into it. Um, but honestly, cast and the crew and, and just production in general made me feel like safe, and I think that’s what allowed me to open up and like be myself.

TEM: Who would you say was your, you know, biggest support throughout the whole season?

The Virgo Queen: The biggest support I mean, my drag daughter Sanjina, who came into that kind of established like relationship, and it just like grew and blossomed into like, I love her so much. Like, she’s literally everything.

TEM: What would you say would be a special moment for you that you’ll always kind of remember and take it with you?

The Virgo Queen:  Oh, I mean, I guess I would have to say, like, the moment in the workroom when Jaylene did give that sash to Xana, I mean, it was like so real like the feelings and energy in that room. It was not for TV. was like a real emotional moment for everyone. And honestly, I’m really blessed to be able to witness that and be a part of that because I think it was kind of changing for me.

TEM : You were a finalist on The Next Star at 14 years old. How did that early taste of fame, let’s say, prepare you for new journey on Drag Race?

The Virgo Queen: I mean, it’s really different TV when you’re a child versus doing an as an adult. And I think it definitely prepared me with like a great work ethic. I mean, it’s early mornings, it’s long days and Definitely taught me, like, I mean, I was like 14, just like, kind of like adults on set. So I think it kind of matures you a little bit quicker. I mean, I had a great experience. Like, I love doing it.

TEM:  You’re someone who’s been, you know, dancing and singing your whole life. Do you see, like, music becoming a bigger part of your future as a drag artist?

The Virgo Queen:  Yes, absolutely. That’s like the path I’m trying to focus in on. I mean, I love doing drag. So I would love to, like, collide the two music and drag. So I’m going to get to the studio as soon as possible. Stay tuned for the Virgo Queen album.

TEM: So just before we wrap up here, is there anything else that you can tell us about what’s next for The Virgo Queen?

The Virgo Queen:  I mean I know that I do have a kind of jam pass schedule for coming up but I’m open to any opportunities. I mean we can work something out. I think definitely some music. So stay tuned. Keep your ears peeled. I’m excited.
