The Amazing Race Canada Exit-Elimination Interview Celia and Lacey

Amazing Race Canada Season 11 Celia and Lacey share the importance of Vulnerability and sharing their story

TEM (The Extra Mile): Whose idea was it to go on the show? And did you have a hard time convincing the other?

Lacey: It was my idea to go on the show and I had to do a little bit of  convincing to get Celia to do it with me but I knew I didn’t want any other partner other than her so I’m very happy that she agreed.

TEM: Have you been like watching the show for like years or  other series or like what kind of made you inspired you to try it?

Lacey: Yeah so we had been  watching The Amazing Race and Amazing Race Canada since we were little girls like it was always on. Our dad really liked the show so it’s always something that I thought about doing and then whenever the opportunity came up I was like okay this must be a sign let’s do it.

TEM: Did you guys do anything in particular to prepare for the show?

Celia: We definitely I mean we’re always pretty active people but we definitely started to run a bit more because I’m not really into running usually. We ran we planned to work on navigation a little bit.

Lacey: Our mom like bought maps for us and I like opened it one day and I was like  no.

Celia: It was honestly really just the running aspect because I feel like the thing with the race is it’s so hard to prepare for the mental side like you really don’t know what’s going to be thrown your way so you kind of just have to be ready to accept anything that comes your way.

TEM: Was there like a moment throughout the race that tested your guys’s relationship and how did you work through that?

Lacey:  Tested our relationship? I don’t know about like from my perspective at least like the tested our relationship but whenever we were up north and I was like really really struggling that day like you know I was like I don’t know if I can keep doing this like my mental health is so bad like Celia was there not being like we have to do this like we have you know she wasn’t with that energy she was like okay like if this is really what you need like that we’re gonna do what you need what’s best for you and like to me that showed me in like one of my hardest moments that she was there for me to support me and wanted the best for me no matter what so I think for me that’s like the most memorable moment for our relationship because I mean that’s what it’s like outside of the race too like I’ve had moments like that and Celia’s been there to make sure that I’m like taking care of myself so I think for me that was like the best moment that just like not tested our relationship but like reminded me of how strong our relationship is.

TEM: Would you say there was like anything that you learned about each other that you didn’t expect kind of coming into the race?

Celia: Yeah I feel like  I learned so much from from Lacey just even the way that she handles stress and challenges is very different from me and I actually learned so much from her in the sense of like  she would reflect to me that I could get really heated in an unnecessary moment and like I don’t need to get super worked up and she just she really like handled so many moments that I was getting worked up in I found that she would be there super grounded to be like it’s all good just  like refocus and I was super super grateful for that so I learned that’s one of the many things I learned from Lacey.

TEM: We’ve seen a lot of you know intense moments and maybe not some fun ones too what was your guys’s most favorite challenge and least favorite?

Lacey: My  favorite like most fun challenge was as annoying as it was because it would just like seem like it was impossible the riding the mountain the canyon coaster was honestly so fun like if we’re going for  fun that was fun like although it was annoying to like not get the seconds right and it was super hard that was really fun for me and then also like I just keep saying this but like playing hockey was like really fun like for me I just always wanted to do it and like I wasn’t that good but like I was just having so much fun I think I was like smiling like the whole time so and my least favorite um I guess the puzzles we learned that we’re not good at puzzles

Celia: so yeah I mean I really loved the the challenger we had to do the singing like on the set okay but it was somewhere in BC yeah just because it was just funny it was really funny and we had had a bit of a rough day the day before and we knew that we were gonna do good at this and we knew we’d get out of there fast and then we went straight into the hockey after that so that was a good moment um and then honestly  I also love the biking in the velodrome it didn’t look that scary on tv but that was crazy  like biking at this angle and I just remember the man was like I’m like any advice he’s like do not  slow down or you’re gonna fall so I’m just like biking as fast as I possibly can and that was that was cool yeah

TEM: do you guys have anything that you want to say  to um like you know future contestants or anyone that wants to you know try out for the future  seasons?

Lacey:  I would say that if you’re looking for an opportunity to just challenge yourself  this is the way to do it because every day you’re faced with brand new challenges things you’ve never  done before you push yourself you test yourself you get to develop a really strong bond with whoever your partner is and like there’s no other opportunity out there that you can get all these  experiences from other than doing the amazing race canada so for anyone that even is just  considering it like a little bit I would say go for it send in your casting audition and see what  happens um because like this is something we’re going to remember for the rest of our lives and  it’s impacted our lives moving forward too

TEM: We’re all about going the extra mile so how do you go the extra mile?

Celia: Big thing for me lately has just been  um really trying to lean into vulnerability and sharing uh my story and I’ve found that through even this experience of sharing our story on the race sharing our dad’s story um when we share our story we help other people feel comfortable to share theirs and I think a really important thing  in this in this lifetime is feeling seen and being witnessed in whatever we’re struggling  so for me it’s just continuing to show up be honest be vulnerable and speak about the difficult things that we don’t always like to speak

Lacey:  yeah I would say just to go in the extra mile um in addition to what Celia  said is just to to seek discomfort that was one of our um one of our mottos is just like  continue to find ways to push yourself and to put yourself in uncomfortable situations because  that’s how you’re going to grow um as a person and I think that that yeah just like don’t don’t shy back from uncomfortable situations lean into them and you’re going to grow a lot
