The 100 shocking recap “Thirteen”
**SPOILER ALERT***
Many hearts were broken on last nights episode of “The 100” including mine. The episode titled “Thirteen” was originally explained as an origin story. Who knew that this would be the end of our beloved Lexa. Even though The 100 is a television show, the creators, writers, producers and cast have created a world with relatable characters that live in extreme conditions and are always fighting for survival. It’s almost impossible to not get attached.
Let’s recap this tragic episode.
We get a quick flashback to Polaris on Unity Day and learn more about A.L.I.E’s creator, Becca (Erica Cerra). We learned that there are two prototypes, A.L.I.E 1 and A.L.I.E 2. She explains that A.L.I.E. 2 was worth saving because unlike A.L.I.E 1, it knew how to be human. That being said, Becca launches herself to the ground going against the commander and safely lands on Earth. That is all we know for now.
Then “Clexa” finally happened in the most beautiful way possible. The undeniable chemistry between Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and Clarke (Eliza Jane Taylor) finally developed and they made love. The producers really made Lexa a beloved character out of a ruthless commander. This was the moment where Lexa practically told Clarke she loved her. (It’s okay Lexa, we all knew that’s what you were going to say).
Then tragedy happens by none other than Lexa’s Flamekeeper Titus ( Neil Sandilands) who tries to kill Clarke, but of course Lexa comes in at the wrong time and accidentally gets shot.
The saddest part was, I knew it was coming. Debnam-Carey being a series regular on “Fear the Walking Dead”, show front-runner Jason Rothenberg even explained he had to negotiate a deal with AMC to keep Debnam-Carey on for a few more episodes. He also said it was one of the main factors, and now because of her death, they are able to develop new story lines with the grounders and the A.L.I.E. At the end of the scene, Titus pulls out a chip, A.L.I.E. 2, from Lexa’s back, explaining that the spirit of the commanders lies in this chip. Is this foreshadowing that we will see Lexa in the City of Light?
Death happens. I get it, and Lexa being such a lovable character emotionally hurts. What really bothered me was how her death scene happened. It was hard enough by putting the whole Clarke and Lexa relationship together, then killing her off in the same episode. But by an accidental death?! Really?! I mean even after she got shot, did anyone remember that Titus is the reason she died?!
Regardless, the last scene is definitely one of the most emotional well played scene in television.
Thanks to The 100 for leaving a burning scar in our hearts.
May we meet again.
