Review ‘Twisters’

Twisters (2024) , the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 classic Twister, has garnered a range of reactions from critics and early viewers. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser who is lured back to the open plains by her friend Javi, played by Anthony Ramos, to test a new storm tracking system. They are joined by Glen Powell’s character, Tyler Owens, a social-media star with a passion for chasing storms.

The film has amazing special effects and thrilling action sequences. Director Lee Isaac Chung “Minari” has been commended for balancing the movie’s intense storm scenes with modern technology while retaining a ‘90s blockbuster movie feel. This approach has made the film an exciting ride, though on some occasions it could have been trimmed slightly for a more centered approach.

Plot

The narrative is engaging, picking up years after the original with a mix of personal conflicts and high-stakes decisions as the team faces increasingly violent twisters. People have praised the film’s ability to maintain a gripping pace, with tension between characters and the unpredictable nature of the twisters keeping the audience on edge. However, the story sometimes feels predictable, relying on disaster movie clichés. While the character development is adequate, it could have been deeper, particularly for the supporting cast members.

Visual Effects and Cinematography

The true star of Twisters (2024) is its visual spectacle. The CGI used to create the tornadoes is breathtaking, capturing the raw power and chaos of nature. Cinematographer Jack N. Green provides stunning aerial shots and immersive storm sequences that make viewers feel like they are in the eye of the storm. The special effects have significantly taken a leap forward from the original. But I do feel that the film occasionally relies too much on its visual prowess, overshadowing the narrative.

Performances

Daisy Edgar-Jones has been highlighted for her strong performance, bringing depth to her role as Kate. Glen Powell has also received acclaim for his charismatic portrayal of Tyler, adding a dynamic energy to the film. The movie shows very minimal approach to romance between the stars Daisy & Glen, which I feel kept the movie more focused on the story and the other important main character in the tile itself “Twisters” that approach on storm chasing kept the film engaging.

Soundtrack and Score

Earlier this month, the Twisters soundtrack was unveiled, highlighting some of the leading artists in the country music scene. This 29-track compilation includes fresh songs by notable musicians like Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Lainey Wilson, and Jelly Roll, among others.

Conclusion

“Twisters 2024” is a thrilling follow-up to the 1996 classic, offering a visual feast and a heart-pounding narrative. While it has its flaws, particularly in character development and reliance on disaster movie tropes, the film succeeds in delivering an unforgettable cinematic experience. Fans of the original and newcomers alike will find much to enjoy in this high-octane sequel.

It’s a must-watch for anyone looking for an adrenaline-filled adventure that showcases the latest in visual effects and compelling lead performances. Despite some bumps along the way, it remains a fun, action-packed summer blockbuster that stays true to its roots while delivering modern cinematic thrills.
