#REVIEW Flower

Flower is the kind of the movie that makes you laugh and feel pity for the unapologetic vigilante. Until the film veers into suspense and takes a disturbing dark turn. The film opens up with 17 year old anti-heronie Erica (Zoey Deutch) blackmailing a cop after giving him head in his car. Erica’s father is in jail and she is trying to earn money to make his bail by blackmailing older men she services. Director Max Wrinkler refers this film as “regaining of innocence” story , but instead comes across emotionally disturbed.

Erica’s life turns around when her mother (Kathryn Hahn) invites her boyfriend and his rehab-admitted son Luke (Joey Morgan) to move in with them. After walking in on Luke on a suicide attempt, Erica learns that Luke was never the same after he accused a teacher of molesting him. Erica and her friends have been fixated on a hot older guy from the bowling alley Will (Adam Scott) who also turns out to be the accused teacher. And so Erica and her friends set a plan in motion to help Luke get revenge by seducing Will and making sure he gets blackmailed.

Needless to say, things don’t go as well as planned. You have to watch the movie to find out.

The film has an edgy concept to it, and we finally get to see Deutch in a bad ass role that embodies the sex-positive feminism.  Her performance is stellar and we’re not sure if the film would have had the same affect without her otherwise. Her performance itself is worth the watch.
