#OSHEAGA Day 2 recap

Day Two of the festival: 

The very first band I knew I had to watch on the second day of the festival is one of my favourite bands The Arkells. I have been to countless shows every since I was about 12 or 13 and they put on an awesome performance every time, this time was no exception. The Arkells played both new and old songs, some of which included “11:11” and “ Oh, The Boss is Coming”. This set was extremely short, as it was only 40 minutes. However with that being said those 40 minutes were filled while toe tapping, dancing and singing.

Directly after The Arkells left the stage, Young the Giant started playing on the next stage. This is another band I have see a few time before and every time I’ve seen them play is just as good as the last. This time however was an extra fun time. This year was Osheaga’s 10th birthday and with a 10th birthday means celebration. The way Osheaga celebrated was by throwing about 70 big beach balls into the crowd for everyone to play with. Not only was it fun to hit the ball but standing back and watching the colourful action happen in front of you was just as fun. Young the Giant played a mixture of songs such as “My Body” and “Mind Over Matter”.

Just like George Ezra the day before Milky Chance had seem to blow up this past year. This German band sure knew how to draw a crowd. Playing songs from their album “Sadnecessary” they had a ton of people up on their friend’s shoulders. Milky Chance of course saved their hit single “Stolen Dance” for last.

Making my way to see Alvvays on the “Scene De La Valle” stage was a long and slow walk. With the stage being on the complete opposite end of the festival grounds, it was incredible to see how many people wanted to see Alvvays. As I approached the stage it was plain to see how massive their audience was and by the time I got a good view of the stage they only had three songs left in their set, I and the people around me were disappointed that we weren’t able to catch their full set. I am surprised that with all their success this year they were still put on one of the smallest stages of the festival. However with that being said from what I saw their performance was one of their best.

In the late afternoon it began to rain however the rain did not stop the fun. Almost everyone was wearing a poncho while the danced along to the many acts going on at that time. After about an hour of down pouring rain, the sun finally came through the clouds.

With the rain gone and the sun setting it was time for Weezer! In my opinion Weezer should have been able to play a longer set or should have headlined one of the nights. Weezer is a band that’s been around for a long time and with the number of hit songs they have under their belt it would have been extremely enjoyable to see them play longer than they did. Playing all their hits like “Say it Ain’t so” “Buddy Holly” and “Beverly Hills” allowed for a non-stop singing fiasco. A highlight of this performance was when the band brought up a couple of kids to play along on the piano and blow up guitar. This kid friendly performance was one of my favourites of the whole festival.

Kendrick Lamar was the headliner of Day two. As I started making my way to the out of the Weezer crowd it was amazing to see just how many fans Kendrick drew to the stage. Soon after the three fireworks shot off Kendrick came on stage. Kendrick’s fans are some of the most wildest I’ve ever seen. There were multiple times where girls where crowd surfing and on the shoulders of guys, topless. Kendrick played all his hits like “m.A.A.d city”, “Bitch, don’t kill my vibe” , “Swimming Pools”, “I”, and “Poetic Justice”
