One Direction brings “On The Road Again Tour” back to Toronto
On Thursday, August 20, the boys of One Direction return to Toronto again for the On The Road Again tour. Seeing the boys again for four years in a row, this time around things were a bit different without their former band member Zayn Malik.
Starting the show off with fireworks, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson jumped on the stage opening their set with “Clouds” and all you could hear was 50,000 people screaming. The boys then proceeded by singing one of my favourite songs “Steal My Girl”. I have to admit, Payne’s voice meshed really well with the first verse which was originally Malik’s part. Screaming fans were too busy singing along to even notice.
As usual, a lot of the performances took place on the cat walk. It was great a lot of the time was spent performing on the catwalk, because it allowed the whole stadium to be able to see the boys no matter where you were sitting.
Though they are amazing live, the stage presence never really changes from their previous tours. They usually zip through their set and sing one song after another, sometimes with brief dialogue. As usual, Styles picks out a fan from the audience and sings Happy Birthday to them.
They also performed some of their older hits such as “Night Changes” “What Makes You Beautiful” “Little Things” “Diana” and “Story of My Life”. Another really exciting song they performed was their new hit single “Drag Me Down”. Even though it was a newly released song, every single person in the audience knew the lyrics.
At times, the boys even jumped down the stage to give a fan a hug. One memorable moment was when Styles fell on stage (ouch!). No matter what age you are, there is no denying these boys know how to have fun. There was so much interaction and water bottle spraying amongst themselves, that as an audience viewer, seeing the boys have lots of fun, made you have a lot fun.
Ending their show with “Best Song Ever” Tomlinson and Payne have a fire extinguisher in hand and start spraying each other, that I even inhaled some in my mouth. None the less, the boys put on yet another great performance and we really hope this isn’t the last time we see them.
