New Summer track Midaz & Ellie’s “Down Together”
Quebec City-born duo Midaz & Ellie are slowly taking over the Canadian charts with their catchy new single “Down Together”. Their previous single “Live it up” earned the number one spot on Quebec’s CKOI radio chart within a 24-hour period and they were also featured on Scope Magazine’s Top 25 personalities of the year feature.
The duo also played various summer festivals such as the Festival d’ete de Quebec where they opened for acts such as LMFAO, Steve Angello and Kardinal Offishall. The Xtra Mile had the pleasure to chat with Midaz about their summer plans and what fans can expect from their upcoming EP.
You guys have taken over the charts in Quebec, we see a lot of musicians where one artist raps, and the other sings. What makes you different? Other than being siblings?
Most of the time when you see that, it’s two artists collaborating together, but not an actual duo! We do it all the time and we love to play with contrasts and set each other up so we can shine in our own way! Even in sadder songs, we always keep a positive message. We’re totally aware that when people hear your music, you can have an influence on them, which is why we want to dedicate our entire career to spreading positivity.
Being a sibling duo, you guys are constantly spending time with one another. Do you ever get sick of each other or do you get along well?
People always tell us ”wow, you guys are so lucky, I would never be able to work with my brother/sister’.” What they don’t get is that we are just like them. We fight all the time but we just love music too much to let it shatter our relationship. This doesn’t mean that we aren’t your typical brother and sister, in fact, if she was here right now to say how annoying I am sometimes, she would. (I’m not that annoying).
Your single “Down Together” is a very beautiful mellow summer track. What else can fans expect from your upcoming EP? Will it be a similar tone?
Thank you! Our second single also has a smooth and happy feeling, as do other songs on the EP. We threw a bit of different stuff in there too, just because we can’t control what inspires us sometimes! Everything we do is pop, but we played around with different ideas and beats. I hope you guys will enjoy it!
The music video was shot in Turks and Caicos, which is beautiful, but there are so many other beautiful resorts and beaches out there! Any particular reason why you chose that location?
It’s actually a pretty funny story. Our manager loves kite surfing and he had heard that Turks and Caicos was one of the best spots to try it out. We decided to organize our whole music video project around that basic idea. Of course if he had loved ice fishing, we might not have followed him, but the place was perfect for the vibe we were looking for.
You guys have played some large festivals and opened for some incredible acts such as LMFAO and Steve Angello. What do you find that draws you into their music? Is there anything in particular that you take from these acts and put it into your own music?
A few years ago we were really into the dance-pop feeling. LMFAO was one of our strongest inspirations, so it was literally a dream come true to open for them! Steve Angello was a different story. The people in charge of that event were people I knew very well in the Quebec nightlife scene. It happened because of the good relationship I had with them! Great memories.
You can catch the Midaz & Ellie’s first upcoming EP late in the summer! Meanwhile, check out their hit track “Down Together”
