#INTERVIEW legendary Dave Mason chats about music
The legend himself, Dave Mason recently spoke with The Xtra Mile to shed some light on today’s music scene as well as why he’s been able to continue performing and making quality music over the countless years.
Best known for being a part of the legendary rock band, Traffic. His musical biography speaks for itself.
How was it being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Being inducted was great especially with guys like Prince and my band, Traffic. A great honor and forget thankful.
How do you stay motivated?
Passion, passion, passion. Motivated because “why not? I’m not going to retire at all”.
Why do you love performing?
That’s all I know and like I said, my passion for music is above all else.
How has the music industry change over time?
Streaming. How many artists get robbed for their money and copyrights? These big companies such as, Spotify and Pandora take as much as possible and leave the artist very little. It’s, “Not cool.”
What advice do you have for upcoming artist?
Copyright all your work. You need to have paperwork so you don’t get robbed by these corporations.
Tell me about your philanthropy work?
I’ve been working with my charity, Vessels for Veterans for many years and have been very successful. Our mission is to help veterans start their own business. Education is important, learn what rights you have. If you want to know more information or donate, just go to Workvessilsforveterns.org.
What’s the best thing about your job?
I’m my own boss and I make sure I entertain myself. Only then, can I entertain others.
