CTV Upfronts Impresses, Announces Fall Line Up
Huge cities such as New York and Los Angeles are familiar with network upfronts. What CTV upfronts are is a period of time for networks to promote the shows that they are releasing for the next season. Unfortunately, Toronto is not a city that expects much, but deserves much attention. As CityTV and Global disappointed, CTV stepped up the game and did all the work this year at the CTV upfronts.
CTV has hit shows such as “Arrow”, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Grey’s Anatomy”. If that’s not studded enough, the new line up for this fall impresses it’s audience, with spinoffs for “Arrow” and “S.H.I.E.L.D.”. Marvel’s impact on the network motivated them to release a spinoff to “Captain America’s” Peggy Carter, “Agent Carter”. It was originally released as a short film, but with the feedback it produced, it’s now going to be a regular series.
One character we saw from “Arrow” this season was the introduction of “The Flash”. CTV and DC Comics have been successful in making “Arrow” a motivating show, inviting anyone that likes a superhero without powers to join in the fun. “The Flash” also premieres this fall, starring Grant Gustin, Danielle Panabaker and Candice Patton. The first episode of the series will also have a familiar face; Stephen Amell is making a cameo as Oliver Queen and are we excited to see it!
A brand new show titled “Gotham” is one of the most anticipated new shows of the season based on Bruce Wayne’s childhood and how he became the Dark Knight with the help of Detective James Gordon (Ben Mackenzie) and his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue). The show will centre around the death of Thomas and Martha Wayne and how Detective Gordon will do anything to solve the case. Viewers are going to expect some familiar villains throughout the show as well!
