Cory Monteith’s death : Was it a drug overdose?

Cory Monteith’s death

On Saturday July 13, 2013, everyone was talking about  Cory Monteith’s death. He was officially announced dead in his hotel room in Vancouver.  He loved Vancouver and always stayed true to his roots, always making appearances at Vancouver Cannucks games and even attended the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremony. It was so heartbreaking to see that he was found at the  Fairmont Pacific hotel in Vancouver. Though the autopsy has yet to be released, many believe Cory Monteith cause of death was a  drug overdose.

Meeting Cory Monteith

One of the saddest days for many Glee fans, especially myself. I had the honor to meet Cory Monteith back in 2010 when he was in Toronto for the Gemini awards. Being super generous and saying hello to all his fans, I can officially say he was one of the nicest celebrities I have ever met. Even after seeing him again at the after-party, he remembered me and still took the time to chat. We went on to chat about how Glee has affected a lot of fans, and how it much the show meant and being able to meet our favourite actors and letting them know how much of an impact they had on our lives. Cory loved hearing about how happy the fans were, and that’s why he always makes the time to stop and say hello to everyone he can. The rest of the glee on tour cast weren’t as friendly.  A lot of them kept to themselves, or would briefly say hello. Cory was different, he always made sure to take the time of his day to make a fan smile. He always had the biggest smile on his face whenever a fan told him how amazing he is.

Glee on Tour

The following year, the Glee on tour came across Canada. I had the chance to run into Cory once again, and he stopped for a photo even under the crazy circumstances. The other Glee cast members weren’t as fan-friendly as usual. The hotels were full of fans around every corner waiting for their favourite Glee cast member to go for a walk.  Though Cory wasn’t able to stop and chat due to the crowds, he still made sure to at least stop and pose for a quick photo.  The Glee tour being one of the best concerts I’ve been too, it is devastating hearing such a talented sweet actor dying at such a young age.

Recently canceling his Target appearance that was set in Toronto, Cory has been going to rehab and doing a lot better. Cory Monteith’s death was a shock to many others and he will always be remembered. Everyone always had positive things to say about the young actor, and we are so heartbroken to see him go.

The Glee producers had taken the time to state on their official Facebook page: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

RIP Cory Monteith
