CMW & Embrace Entertainment Presents: Courage My Love and The New Electric
On Thursday, April 20th, The New Electric, and Courage My Love took the stage at The Velvet Underground during Canadian Music Week.
Pop / Alternative Band the New Electric are no strangers to putting on a show that’s just what they did at the velvet underground. The first time I saw this band was when they opened up for Nick Carter at the Danforth music hall. While the crowd was larger at the Danforth the audience at The Velvet Underground seemed to be feeling and enjoying the music more which I was very happy to see. From the very start of their set, the energy from Kyle, Indy, Chris and Adam seemed to be through the roof. Throughout their entire set lead singer, Kyle McKarney was sure in interact with everyone in the crowd which made for a super interactive set. Half-way into their set, they surprised the audience by covering Shape of You by Ed Sheeran. The New Electric played a number of songs some of which included Ride This Feeling, Inside Out, T-shirt and Life’s what you make it. Overall I really enjoyed their performance and was very happy to see that others seemed to be enjoying it too by singing along and dancing.
The Headliners of the night, Courage My Love were a band I kept hearing about and kept wanting to see but never had the chance to until now. Upon coming to the show, I listened to their newest album and actually really enjoyed what I heard so I was excited to see and hear what they would be like live. This trio from Kitchener, Ontario that consists of Mercedes Arn-Horn (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Phoenix Arn-Horn (Vocals, Drums) and Brandon Lockwood (Bass). As soon as they kicked off their first song the vibe in the room completely changed everyone in the room seemed to come together and for a minute it felt like I was in a room with a whole bunch of friends. Playing a mixture of both old and new songs allowed those who have been following them for a long time to get the chance to sing their hearts out. Love Hurts, Stereo, Skin and Bones, and Kerosene were just a few of many songs they played. For the duration of the set, all three members had incredible stage performance and left the crowd wanting more. I can honestly say that I wish I had seen this band before because they were amazing, with that being said they deserve all the praise and recognition they have been getting over the past few years. I am definitely a new fan of Courage My Love and look forward to seeing them on this year’s Vans Warped Tour.
