Canada’s Drag Race Star Doll Reflects on Her Journey, Design Challenge, and Future Projects
Fresh off her elimination, Star Doll sits down with The Extra Mile to talk about her Canada’s Drag Race journey from choosing the Design Challenge over Snatch Game, to representing Filipino heritage on the main stage, to what fans can expect next. With her signature humor and radiant energy, Star Doll opens up about her favorite looks, her spiritual inspirations, and how she continues to go the extra mile both on and off the stage.
TEM (The Extra Mile) : Tell me about this look.
Star: Oh, my gosh, yes. Thanks for asking. I honestly, like they said in the episode, my drag is very maximalist, and that’s exactly what I wanted to serve today. I was like, you know what? You’re not going to see this half. You’re going to see this half. So I stole this from Suki’s closet, and I said, let’s go. I love it.
TEM: You know, this episode, wow, what a gag. I know. I did not expect that. Like, the poison, the decision between snatch and design. I mean, I got to ask, like, do you regret your decision at all? Like, do you wish you chose the other poison?
Star: You know, I don’t regret my decision, because I think I did a pretty good job with my look. And honestly, the fans, just a few hours after watching the episode, are agreeing. But you know what? I probably would pick snatch game going back just because, I don’t know. I feel like I’m a funny bitch. Like, I don’t think I’m hilarious. I think I just be saying shit. And that’s exactly what you need to do in snatch game, right? Like, it’s just improv back and forth.
TEM: Let’s say you did do the snatch game. Who would you have chosen to do in snatch?
Star: My favorite question. I was going to do Reba McEntire. I was going to be a country. So I was going to go full balls to the wall, full country.
TEM: Which queen do you think surprised you the most with their performance in the other challenge?
Star: Ooh, in the snatch game? Yeah. I was really, really, really happy that Mya slayed the hell out of the Long Island medium. I was so impressed. And she was, like, I think the best thing about playing the snatch game, I’ve never done it, but watching it, is, like, she was not just answering Brooke’s questions, but she was volleying with everybody and reading everybody as the character, right? So hats off to Mya.
TEM: Is there, like, overall, like, who do you think is the most underrated queen?
Star: Ooh, I think the most underrated queen, I don’t know. We have a lot of TikTok stars, and I’m really happy, you know, like, all their fans and their followers are watching us. So I’m not going to say any of them, even though I love them. I think the most underrated in snatch game was Mya, and I think the most underrated in design was me.
TEM: What was your favorite look out of the episodes we got to see you in, and why?
Star: Honestly, I think my favorite look I got to wear, I think all of the main runways, because my More is More, my In the Shadows, and my Design Challenge, all is paying homage to my Filipino heritage. You know, I was like, I want to represent my culture for everyone that needs to be represented and wants to feel seen. And I was honestly really proud of my Design Challenge, because I was going for crazy rich Asians, right? I’m so happy. I’m the only Asian queen this season, so I’m representing.
TEM: Do you feel like, do you pull, like, a lot of inspiration from the other Asian Drag Race Franchises?
Star: Of course. Yeah, absolutely. I think that Filipino drag is some of the best drag in the entire world, and I know the fans have my back for that. Yeah, of course. Like, I’m really grateful that I’m friends with some of these Drag Race Philippines girls, like Marina Summers, Vinas Deluxe, Arizona Brandy, all these girls, like, their drag is so stellar. And over the, Kiana, Miss Jade So, they all inspire me in my drag, because it’s like, oh, they can do that? I can do it, too. And I am doing it now, so I’m serious.
TEM: Your lip sync is fabulous. I’m wondering, like, where, what, so if you got to choose, let’s say, your song to sing, what song would that have been?
Star: If I got to choose the lip sync song I wanted to sing? Yeah, yeah. Oh, my goodness. I love a good Katseye moment. Katseye is taking over the world. Tate McRae, I would have loved to do something by Tate. Sportscar by Tate McRae would have gone crazy. I’m so sorry. That would be buzz.
TEM: I believe, from Toronto’s Drag Master class. What message do you have for, like, students, or not even just students, just, like, fans watching you on the big screen?
Star: I was really grateful that I got to do the Toronto Drag Master class, you know, because I don’t have any drag kids, but I love inspiring all of the youth and all these young, queer people that are looking up to me and, you know, feel seen by me doing what I love. What I would say to all of them is, really make sure to find your chosen family and find the people that love and accept you. And I would also say, stay humble, be respectful to other people, and always, always, always chase your dreams because, bitch, you could be on Canada’s Drag Race, bitch, who knows? You never know. Season of the Star.
TEM: Exactly, exactly. I mean, I’m curious, what’s next for Stardoll? Like, any music or, like, what can fans expect that, you know, that you can share?
Star: Yeah, I have some music that’s coming out. You know, it’s being written and recorded right now. I also have a TV show that is coming out next year in February, March. Can’t spill too much on that, but you can follow me on socials to see. Love that.
TEM: And then my final question, wrapping this up, so we’re all about going the extra mile. So how do you go the extra mile or what does that mean to you?
Star: I go the extra mile by smiling because in this world, we are surrounded by so much darkness and it’s so easy to stay in the shadows. But I, oh, look at me connecting into the runway. But I think that sharing my smile, sharing my positive energy and being authentically myself, that I am the light. I am the star and I’m shining for everybody and I want to show everyone that you can do it as well.
