TEM (The Extra Mile) : How are you feeling in one word?
Sami :Incredible
Van Goth: Ecstatic.
PM: Proud.
TEM : Was there any moment that each of you guys kind of realized, like, oh, oh, my God, I’m on Drag Race?
Van Goth : When I lip synced against Brooke Lynn Hytes in front of Paula Abdul.
Sami: The first Untucked in episode one, when, you know, when people started, like, you know, we all started off very hesitant, like, oh, everyone did good, and then it slowly started getting more and more into it, and it was like, oh, right, we’re here, and there’s cameras, and it’s time to get on it.
PM: Yeah, for me, I realized what sort of season it was when Van saved me over Star That was the moment where I was like, okay, we’re not like the other seasons, hey?
TEM: Which runway that we got to see kind of felt like the most of you?
Sami: My finale, my finale runway to me was my favorite.
Van Goth: I would say my first design challenge, the scene stealer one, was my favorite and felt the most like me and my brand. Yeah, that one was like really special.
PM: Mine was probably my perp walk look, the piss demon. That one kind of put everything I do into one nasty little runway.
TEM: So if there was any drag that you can switch with, who would it be and why?
Van Goth : Oh, okay, see, I see. I would say Velma. I feel like a lot of Velma’s look when Velma would put them on, or like their aesthetic, I’d be like, I’d wear that. That’s really good. And also, I’d be so down to, like, little Johnny as well and, like, kind of, like, tap into, like, drag king persona. I think that’d be so much fun.
PM: I could go. I would want to switch with Van. and just feel that bodied down fantasy that as soon as she starts putting it on, you just see the change happen, and I would adore.
Sami: I want to get into that freaky creature zussie drag. PM Yes. I feel like I do drag that’s very feminine, and I want to get into this gender monstrosity. I want to get into all of that.
PM: Let’s make it happen.
TEM: Was there anyone in the competition that surprised you guys the most?
Sami: I would say Ebony, just because she was one of the few people who I genuinely was not on my radar before. Because most people, even though I didn’t know PM, I didn’t know Van Goth beforehand, we all know of each other because we’re all in a smaller industry. So I know, for years I’ve known who works in Vancouver, I know who works in Toronto, who are the main shakers and movers. And Ebony was one of the few people who completely was not on my radar and who surprised me by her talent and everything was like, damn, she’s got it.
Van Goth: I would say Maya surprised me a lot. thought when Maya did Snatch Game and just her comedic timing and her humor, I was like, damn, I had known Maya before the show. And I think that’s maybe what surprised me the most is that I was like, I didn’t know you could do all that. Like, didn’t know you had all that in you.
PM: For me, it was Sammy. Sammy really surprised me. I obviously knew of her online. And just seeing that come in every single aspect of their drag was just like yeah it was it was so clear of a brand. I don’t think I look at things the same way after seeing meeting samuel. I’ll always see things and be like that’s a Sami look.
TEM: is there anything that you wish that the audience has got to see so far that we didn’t get to kind of get to know about you or who you are?
Sami: I mean for real like one of the privileges of being a finalist is that I went through the adventure from A to Z and I feel like I gave my all like I don’t know if there’s every episode on the emotional aspect on the performance aspect on everything like I really did give everything I had so and that’s a good thing because I’m leaving this experience no going like there’s nothing more that I could give you know I did give everything The cards have fallen where they fall, and we will see for the finale as well. So, to me, I’m leaving with complete comfort that I did give everything, and no matter what, I’m okay with that.
Van Goth: I would say I wish… I feel like I was a little nicer than portrayed, especially in the sewing challenge. I think all that was really portrayed was that I just didn’t help Ebony, or, like, didn’t help her enough, quote-unquote. But I, like, literally went to every single person and helped at least every single person with one thing. Or, like, talked about them through something, or, like, gave them an idea. And I feel like that would have been nice to see, just because I know that I was a little bit nicer than I think what came across.
PM: I wish people could have seen me win earlier, but… No. I feel like this was a true depiction of where my drag was at this time in the competition. Like, I feel like I gave it my best go in everything I could have done. There’s nothing I wish I could have said differently because I got out there and I said it. And I got to showcase literally everything I brought. I wish I didn’t have to show all the lip sync looks, but you know what? We got to show a lot. I’m very, very proud of how I ended up in this finale. I wouldn’t change it.
TEM: If I win Drag Race, what would be the first thing that I’m doing?
Sami: Check my bank account. See the money. See if that’s real. And then I would, you know, I would, I would go on a long- trip. I would love to go, like, around the world, like, for real, for real. I would love to go to a mountain and not speak with anyone for a long time, because this has been a grueling experience, but I will come back. Like, you know, like, drag race has been a medium and a tool to further my career, so I’m not, like, I’m not, like, leaving forever, but, like, if I win, like, I want that moment where, like, no one can talk to me for a minute, that would be amazing.
Van Goth: Maybe go do ayahuasca with Saltina. I would get a crown tattooed right here, and then I would throw a party for all of my friends and family who helped me get to drag race, because it’s definitely a team activity in a lot of ways. And that’s… Like Sammy, I’d also go away for a long time where you couldn’t see me or reach me, but probably, like, Europe or something.
PM: If I win, I’m going to the dentist, because it’s been a while since I’ve had my teeth cleaned, I’d like to also buy a new laptop, but more importantly, I’d feel the same way as Van. I’d want to, like, host a killer party that’s, like, free for the community that helped me. I would love to, yeah, celebrate in a big way.
TEM: So we’re all about going the extra mile what does the extra mile mean to you guys?
Sami: Not giving up, you know, like, and to my experience on the show, it was a lot of, you know, when you, when I thought that I had given all that I could give, and that my My brain would be like, okay, like, I can’t go anymore. Like, that’s it. I would just have to keep giving more. And then that, and then I would, and then after that is when the best stuff would come out. So it’s about like, you know, facing that hard moment where you think you can’t give up, where you think you can’t give more. Don’t give up. And then, like, usually the best stuff will come right after that.
Van Goth: I would say mine would be, um, speak your mind and, like, be authentically you. I think my experience in the show was just always speaking my mind no matter what. And sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m wrong, but the important thing is I was always myself and I always represented myself to the best of my ability. And I feel like everyone that knows me watched the show and went, baby, that’s, that’s, that’s you, man. That’s you to a T.
PM: Yeah. Um, going the extra mile for me is not, or sorry, going the extra mile for me is caring about the people who are. Because as much as drag is, like, focused inwards, there are always these, like, teams and people beside you that, like, don’t get their flowers as much. So when I can finally, like, let go of what I’m doing and notice the people around me, that’s when I feel like the extra mile is taken.
