A Night out with The Trews at Massey Hall

One of the worst days of the year, turned into one of the best nights. Schools were cancelled, TTC busses were delayed, the roads were filled with snow, yet fans of all ages were still able to fill up every seat. On Thursday December 11th The Trews played to a sold out show at the iconic Massey Hall.

Having never been to Massey Hall, I was really eager to see what the hype was all about, after attending this show I finally know why this venue is so iconic. From the beautiful interior, to the amazing acoustics it is no wonder why this venue is loved by many.

The first half of the show was an acoustic set. With everyone in their seats and the lights starting to dim, The Trews took the stage. This set had a very intimate feeling despite the venue being as big as it is. Playing songs like Hope & Ruin as well as In the Morning, had some fans holding up lighters in the air.

This was just the beginning of the special night.

After a 20 minute intermission, it was time to actually rock out. With everyone now on their feet, The Trews launched into their set with Rise in The Wake followed by other fan favourites like Age of Miracles. So She’s Leaving and Tired of Waiting.

This high energy set included the help from a few special guests. During Highway of Heroes two bagpipers took the stage, Brett Emmons of (The Glorious Sons) joined in on Poor Ol’ Broken Hearted Me and Joan Smith took the stage during 30 Days in the Hole.

As the night went on it was clear to see that the crowd was truly enjoying themselves. From people throwing their hands up in the air, to others dancing like they were alone in their rooms, it was obvious to see that the crowd fed off of the The Trews’ energy. The Trews ended the night off with Not Ready to Go.

After thanking the crowd for coming and making everything thus for possible they bowed to a standing ovation. This show was one to remember both for all the fans and The Trews.
