ALBUM REVIEW: The Story So Far

Popular Pop-punk band The Story So Far has done it again! On May 18 they released their sophomore (3rd), self-titled album for the world to hear.

As soon as the first song begins and I heard the feedback effect, followed by Parker Cannon’s angsty vocals, I was able to tell that this LP was going to be as good, if not better than the other two.

Thought the entire album Parker Cannon (Lead Vocals) sings about what seems to be a pretty horrible break up. Most if not every song on this album is about this girl who had left him for another guy. Clearly heart broken, Parker’s heart felt vocals and agnsty lyrics are paired perfectly, which make the listener feel just has heart broken.

Song after catchy song I found myself singing along. However, “Heavy Gloom”, “Solo” and “Phantom” were a few songs that stood out to me while listening to the record. While I liked all the songs on the album, there was something about these songs that were different. Whether it was heavier, catchy or mellow and slow these three had me singing the loudest.

After listening to the whole record from start to finish a couple of times, the main thing that stood out to me was how well produced this album was. Not only were the instrument highlighted well, but Parker’s vocal were very clear, more so than the other two albums before this. I have to say that from listening to this record the whole band sounds cohesively better.

My only real criticism about this record is that I wish they had decided to make a couple of songs sound different compared to things they have done it the past. Instead they played it safe and stuck to what they know fans will be happy with.

Overall I would have to say this is a pretty good record. Not only does it offer a familiar sound to those who are already fans of the band, but it also allows never fans to get a sense of what The Story So Far has to offer.

Sony Music Entertainment Canada released The Story So Far on May 19
